Sexual Harassment Cases Popular in the United States
In the past year, 2017, there were over 12,000 charges of sexual harassment charges that were reported in the United States. By far and large, such a rise in the number of the cases based on sexual harassment charges was not only seen in the United States alone, but rather applied the world over. In the same year as well we saw such a high number of the personalities known in the entertainment world and renowned celebrities from Hollywood speak out against the sexual harassment that they had experienced over the past years. What amazed many was the fact that these cases and allegations actually were around some of the well known personalities and powerful leaders and by extension this went as far as to affect countries such as India, Peru and Israel.
Thanks to the campaigns and mobilization done all over by the #metoo movement, there was as such seen such a rise in the number of the reported sexual harassment cases in the United States and by extension the world over. This be as it is, the other fact that we need to acknowledge is the fact that this success in the number of the sexual harassment cases that have been talked about and come to the limelight has been as well been as a result of the sexual harassment cases that were before. The US history is filled with lots of sexual harassment cases. The first of these cases that we will take a look at is that which saw one Ani Chopourian sue the Catholic Healthcare West which came up in the year 2012. She was actually an employee of the Mercy General Hospital, working there as a physician. The allegations she had were such as those that included the fact that in the course of her dispensation of her duties, serving as a physician at the facility, she actually reported many times cases of sexual harassment.
In her allegations, she said that her employer, Catholic Healthcare West did absolutely nothing to follow on her allegations. She alleged that her case was in the sense that she had to endure sexual harassment from a guy at work who ever greeted her every morning telling her that he was horny and went even further on to slap her buttocks. By the end of the case and when it was determined, at least initially, the suing party, Chopourian was granted an award for the allegations, of a sum of over $160 million. By and large, this was actually the highest award ever given to a sexual harassment victim ever in US history.
